NEW DELHI – Stan Lee's first ever Indian superhero will premiere in the movie Chakra: The Invincible on Turner International's Indian kids outlet Cartoon Network on Nov. 30. As reported exclusively by The Hollywood Reporter in December 2011, the legendary creator of Spider-Man, X-Men, Iron Man and The Avengers, among others, partnered his POW! Entertainment with Indian graphic novel publisher Liquid Comics (including its affiliate Graphic India) to develop Chakra as an Indian superhero.

“I am incredibly excited to be collaborating with my friends at Graphic India as we launch this great new, thrill-a-minute superhero saga named, Chakra: The Invincible, on Cartoon Network,” Lee said in a statement.

“The incredible story of Chakra, one of my latest and most exciting superhero creations, promises to captivate audiences in India and around the world with his adventures,” he added.

Chakra: The Invincible tells the story of Raju Rai, a young Indian boy living in Mumbai. Raju and his mentor, the scientist Dr. Singh, develop a technology suit that activates the mystical chakras of the body. When Raju dons the suit, he discovers superpowers and vows to use his newfound abilities to protect and serve as he battles super villains.

“We are thrilled to announce this partnership and to have the pleasure of working with one of the world’s greatest legends -- and my favorite real-life superhero, Stan Lee,” said Turner International India senior director and network head for kids, Krishna Desai.

“Stan Lee is one of the most prolific storytellers in the world, and in the same way his previous characters are known by nearly every man, woman and child on the planet, we believe Chakra will captivate audiences from Boston to Beijing to Bangalore,”  added Graphic India'ss co-founder and CEO, Sharad Devarajan, who is also the director and executive producer of the animated film.

Graphic India senior vp, creative and acclaimed Indian artist Jeevan J. Kang oversaw the visual development and created the character designs and art for the project, working closely with Lee and Devarajan to bring Chakra’s story to life.  Beyond animation, Graphic India will also be launching the character in a series of digital and print comic books and graphic novels as well as through toys and merchandise.

Graphic India recently announced that Chakra: The Invincible was selected as part of a group of content partners to be featured on Angry Birds creator, Rovio Entertainment’s multi-platform ToonsTV channel, reaching audiences around the world.

Graphic India is a comic book and animation company focused on creating mythological and superhero characters, comics and stories for the Indian youth market, published across mobile and online platforms. The venture was launched last year by media entrepreneurs Devarajan, Gotham Chopra (son of well-known new age author Deepak Chopra) and Suresh Seetharaman, as a subsidiary of U.S. comic book company Liquid Comics. In January, Peter Chernin's Asian investment arm CA Media became a joint owner in the company by acquiring a minority stake in Graphic India for an undisclosed amount.

At Comic-Con this year, Graphic India launched animation series 18 Days on YouTube, created by comic book legend Grant Morrison based on the Indian epic myths of the Mahabharata.
