International Osteoporosis Foundation

Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and related diseases will be focus of major clinical meeting being held from Feb. 20 to 22, 2014

The International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and the International Society for Clinical Densitometry (ISCD) will host a unique clinical meeting which combines the expertise of both organizations and features leading faculty and key opinion leaders in the field.

IOF-ISCD Skeletal Health Orlando 2014: Current Concepts in Osteoporosis Assessment and Management is to be held from February 20 to 22, 2014 at the Buena Vista Palace Hotel and Spa in Orlando, Florida.

The two and a half-day meeting will encompass all medical disciplines and specialties involved in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and related diseases. An extensive scientific program will allow delegates to pick from a menu of concurrent sessions designed to be of direct relevance to the specific information needs of clinicians, technologists and researchers.

To optimally identify and manage patients and provide expert care, delegates will learn to:

  • Analyze the latest emerging treatments available for patients with osteoporosis;
  • Apply clinical tools and resources to optimize osteoporosis management, with understanding of the latest developments in fracture risk assessment tools, pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, and treatment-related issues such as rare serious side effects and drug holidays;
  • Practice improved communication skills between Technologist and Physician;
  • Understand the techniques involved in obtaining quality bone mass assessments and how poorly obtained measurements and inaccurate interpretation negatively impacts clinical care;
  • Review and incorporate into practice the revised ISCD Official Positions regarding Pediatrics, Total Body Composition, DXA, Vertebral Fracture and Utilization of Normative Databases;
  • Assess the role of sarcopenia, frailty and body composition in the clinical setting.

Research abstracts submitted to the Meeting will be published in the Journal of Clinical Densitometry and Osteoporosis International. Abstracts can be submitted up until November 4, 2013 at http://iof-iscd-meeting.org/orlando-2014/abstracts.

The five best abstracts by young investigators will be granted IOF-ISCD Young Investigator Awards.

IOF-ISCD Skeletal Health Orlando 2014 will mark ISCD's 20th anniversary as well as IOF's 1st North American Regional Meeting. The Meeting is held in partnership with Osteoporosis Canada (OC), Californian Hispanic Osteoporosis Foundation (CHOF), Brazilian Orthopedic Association (ABOOM), Brazilian Association of Bone Assessment and Metabolism (ABRASSO), Mexican Association of Bone and Mineral Metabolism (AMMOM).

ISCD will be the accredited provider of CME credits, offering an anticipated 19+ AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s). Through an agreement between the American Medical Association and the European Union of Medical Specialists, physicians may convert AMA PRA Category 1 Credits to an equivalent number of EACCME credits. An application to offer continuing education credits to technologists through ASRT will also be made.

Complete meeting information, as well as online registration and abstract submission, is available at http://www.iof-iscd-meeting.org
